I’m not a beer drinker usually, and since I don’t drink it, why not eat it instead! Here’s a super quick way to whip up a batch of bread and have a warm, cheesy, beery loaf ready to go in less than an hour. Enjoy with some friends and soup!
Makes 1 loaf
What you need
3 cups plain flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 garlic clove, minced
2 tablespoons honey
¼ cup parsley, chopped
3 tablespoons melted butter
1 (340ml) bottle of your favourite beer
1 ½ cups grated cheddar cheese
For brushing the bread, 1 tablespoon melted butter.
What to do
Preheat the oven to 175°C fan forced. Grease a bread pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and garlic. Mix honey into the melted butter and add to the mixing bowl and mix well. Stir in the beer until combined. Then stir in the grated cheddar until just combined. (Be careful not to over mix the dough.) Transfer the dough to the pan, and spread it out with a spoon so that it’s roughly level.
Bake for 40 minutes. Remove the pan and brush some melted butter on top of the bread. Return to the oven and bake for 10-15 more minutes, until the top is golden brown and a toothpick/knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Let cool for at least 5 minutes. Serve warm.
